Camp Potosi 2000

The name Potosi translates from Castilian Spanish to mean "great wealth gold mine: source of great wealth". While Mount Potosi's history is abundant in folklore and Historical fanciful tales of wealth and adventure, today's purpose is just as rich and exciting.

The Spencer W. Kimball Scout Reservation, located at Mount Potosi is "history in the making". The 1,120 acre reservation is located 30 miles Southwest of Las Vegas. Nevada. This high desert facility is at an elevation of 5,800 feet with daytime temperatures at least 20 degrees cooler than in the Las Vegas Valley.

Camp Potosi (located within Spencer W. Kimball Scout Reservation) has over four miles of roads, eleven miles of hiking trails, 70 troop campsites, latrines, washstands, two shower buildings, swimming pool, well and water storage system, activity shelters, camp office trailer, trading post, large amphitheater, canoeing pond, rappelling tower, Indian Village, Trail to First Class Program Area, provisional Troop, and Serenity Hall. In our strive for excellence, Boulder Dam Area Council is continually improving and expanding the quality of the facilities and the programs.

Indian Village for Indian Lore and cooking merit badges and Order of the Arrow gatherings.

Provisional troop for boys who attend camp without their own troop.

Special computer programs for older scouts. 
Over 30 merit badges
Campfires, including Nebagamon Lodge 312 Silver Cetan Drum and Dance Team. 
Adult activities (black powder shooting, horse shoes, training, etc...)

Camp Deposit and Fees

To reserve the campsite of your choice , there is a $100 Non-refundable deposit due with your reservation form. The fee is $155 per scout, if all scouts fees are paid in full by May 15, 2000, and after May 15, 2000, the fee is $165 per scout. Each troop gets a leader free for the first 8 scouts and 2 if they have 14 scouts. Each additional adult will pay $70 to defray food and programs costs.

Pre Camp Leaders Meeting

There will be 2 Pre-Camp Leaders Meeting held by the Camp Director and his staff. Every troop leader in encouraged to attend, or send a representative to one of these meetings. You will be given a clear description of what the camp has to offer in merit badge programs and many other activities. This will allow you to help your unit prepare for their summer camp week. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and give suggestions. These meetings will help your unit prepare for their Parents Information Meeting.

The reservation accommodates Boy Scout long term summer camp from mid-June to mid-July. It is available for Weekend camping for scout troops, one day outings for cub scout packs, cub resident camp, and adult training courses and conferences.
